I don't understand.
This is the 2nd time this year that someone somehow got ahold of my debit card numbers and charged me with AOL Broadband service. This happened once before (March 2004) and I knew why. I got an email from someone posing as Ebay and they were asking me for updated credit card infomation. I gave my info because the credit card that ebay had down for me was in fact expired so..I figured they just wanted one that wasn't. Usbank was pretty good about the 1st time this happened. They called me and asked me if I made specific weird purchases. Somehow they noticed. They promptly gave me my money back (about $170sih) and also gave me a new debit card with a new number on it.
Okay, so I learned my lesson and didn't give ANYONE my credit card info unless I knew for sure it was legit and the website was secure. Since March, of course I bought stuff off the Net. From Ebay using Paypal, paying my bills, and...that's about it. Oh yeah Office Depot too. These are legit places. Who keeps using my damn credit card? The damn card is always somewhere safe, in my purse or in my back pocket.
So this is what I'm doing about it. I'm closing my checking account entirely and reopening a new one with a new account number. Usbank lady on the phone said that they'd have to give me a new visa debit card. She was lecturing me about going to questionable websites but I'm not! I go to Amazon, ebay, that's it. I don't post my credit card info anywhere. I don't use AOL Broadband and never have. I'm wondering if I call them they can tell me who charged it..I know this idea sucks but I'm thinking I should start using more checks to buy stuff online. Yeah it'll take longer but it'll be more secure?
Now I've gotta wait 5 business days for Usbank to do their "research" and then decide if they'll give me my $55.80 back. Check your account frequently, people. If I didn't this morning, I wouldn't have known about this fraudulent crap.
